Cunard lines 80,774 grt The QM was laid down in 1930, but building stopped a year later because of the great Depression. After forcing Cunard and White Star lines to merge the government assisted in her financing and she was finally completed in 1936. She immediately took the Blue Riband. She served as a troop transport in World War 2, then returned to Cunard in 1946. In 1967 she was sold to the city of Long Beach CA where she serves to this day as a hotel and convention center.
